Crystal Palace -chairman Steve Parish admitted that the club could be forced to sell captain Marc Guehi this summer, in the midst of the constant reports in the media that both Liverpool and Chelsea are very enthusiastic about a transfer deal
The Eagles came back to beat Liverpool in a penalty shoot-out and to lift the Community Shield at Wembley and to anesthetize the Premier League champions, which contributed to their impressive FA Cup victory at the back of last season.
Palace’s second silverware in 86 days was a welcome postponement of their continuous legal battle, with the Court of Arbitrage of Sport (CAS) who now decides that they will play in the Conference League this season and not the Europa League.
Guehi’s contract is at the end of this campaign and the opponents of Sunday Liverpool are considered leaders to secure the signature of the 25-year-old English defender, but Chelsea have shown some late interest.
Now, in the midst of all the speculation and rumors, Parish has opened himself and claims that Palace can be forced to have one of the club players leave this transfer window: “Yes. I mean, of course we should,” said Parish, who is also co-owner if he would be seriously entertained for his skipper for the next three weeks.
“For players of that caliber to leave freely, it is a problem. No doubt about this unfortunately.
“We had one bid (last summer), but Joachim (Andersen) went (to Fulham) and we could not afford to lose them both. We still had a bid in January, but that was also a difficult situation, and the player had a position about it.
“So we just have to see what is happening, but it needs a new contract or a kind of conclusion.”
