Giannis Antetokounmpo spoke to the media Saturday ahead of the 2026 NBA All-Star Game at the Intuit Dome, discussing his recovery, commitment to Milwaukee and thoughts on basketball’s global reach.
During his rehab, the two-time MVP said, “I feel good. I feel 100% to be honest. I just have to…check the boxes, play one-on-one, three-and-three, five-on-five. Once I check all those boxes, I’m good to go. I feel like I can play a game today.”
Reflecting on Milwaukee, Antetokounmpo said, “It’s a beautiful city. I’ve talked so much about my journey coming from the international game… stay disciplined for yourself and for your craft, and hopefully that will help you get noticed.”
Giannis emphasized his respect for opponents and praised Spurs guard Stephon Castle. “He definitely helps his team. One thing I like about him is… he takes on the challenge of guarding the opponent’s best player. Players who play in two directions, attack and defense, I’m a big fan of them, and he’s one of them.”
The Greek Freak sent a message to his international fans, especially in the Philippines. “I love you guys. Keep supporting the NBA. Keep watching the Milwaukee Bucks. Keep supporting me and my family. See you soon.”
He also reflected on the career of friend and former teammate Jabari Parker. “He’s grown as a player, grown as a person… he can just keep going with it and continue to enjoy the game of basketball. Whatever decision he makes going forward, I think it will be the right one for him.”
Antetokounmpo addressed trade rumors and emphasized his loyalty. “I feel really good. I feel safe. How much I love the city of Milwaukee, how much I’m committed to the season… I’m committed to my teammates, my coaches and the front office who have believed in me for 13 years.”
On daily life and maintaining peak performance, he said: “Water, lots of vegetables, always breakfast… I try to eat five meals a day, lots of small meals, and stay hydrated.”
Giannis also discussed possible future ventures as a player-owner. “If there is an opportunity to own the sport, whatever it may be, I will 1,000% consider it. I love the game of basketball, and anywhere I can be involved, I would want to be involved.”
On comparisons to athletes outside of basketball, he said: “When I put Messi or Ronaldo, I compare myself more to Ronaldo… hard work, discipline, take care of your body, consistent. He is now 41 and still plays at a high level. That is closer to my mentality.”
Giannis, sidelined due to injury, will miss the All-Star festivities, with De’Aaron Fox replacing him at USA Stripes. The 2026 All-Star Game will debut in a USA vs. the World format in a round-robin tournament hosted by the Clippers at the Intuit Dome.
