Getting a ride outside the boundaries? With this rule you can invade the fairway

Scenario: You get your t -shirt outside the borders.

Old rule: The previous rule required golfers to take a stroke and distance fine for lost balls. This meant that the player had to take a fine and play their third shot from the Tee-Box.

Model Local Rule E-5: A new local rule (Model Local Rule E-5) was introduced in the 2019 edition of the Rules of Golf and offered an alternative to the traditional fine and distance penalty. According to this rule, players have the option to drop their ball into the fairway after they have hit it outside the borders. To do this, they must identify the point where the ball crossed the borders and draw an imaginary line perpendicular to the fairway, not closer to the hole. The drop zone is then everywhere within two club lengths behind that line. After you have fallen in the fairway, you play your fourth shot.

Why the rule exists: Simply put, the new rule was introduced to help with the pace of playing. According to the USGA: “If a provisional ball is not played, important problems with the pace of playing can lead to a player having to take a battle and distance lighting for a ball that is outside the borders or cannot be found. The purpose of this local rule is to allow a committee to offer an extra aid option that a player can play without returning to the location of the previous battle.”

As soon as you lose a ball of the tee, you can use this rule to get yourself in the fairway without losing the risk of losing another ball.
