Game report: Special teams Misstep is expensive

Merrimack College had a golden chance to record his very first victory over an FBS opponent on Saturday. Instead, Da’realyst Clark of Kent State Spoiler became. Just after the Warriors seized the lead late in the fourth quarter, Clark tore off a kick -off of more than 100 meters, so that the game turned upside down.

Kent State held up for a victory of 21-17 and broke a losing series that had stretched over almost two full seasons.

Ayden Pereira Was a one -man demolition team for Merrimack. Three quarters of a long time the Warriors’ attack was unable to generate a lot of momentum, and they were hindered by pre-snap sentences. They only reached the end zone halfway through the fourth quarter – and even then it cost a moment of sparkle of their Junior Quarterback.

Pereira found Seth Sweitzer Streaten through the middle for a touchdown of 36 meters. Sweitzer slid along the Linebackers, made free safety and pulled the ball into the back of the end zone.

Statistically, Pereira put together a balanced line: 15 of 31 pass before 176 Yards and the touchdown to Sweitzer. But his real damage came to the ground. He ran for 125 Yards on 19 Carry’s, including a 27-Yard Burst on Merrimack’s opening ride of the fourth quarter that the score vacation set up.

In a game where the Warriors attack was struggling to find his rhythm, Pereira was the difference – making plays with both his arm and his legs when Merrimack needed it the most.

After the Sweitzer touchdown, Aveon Smith entered the game in Pereira’s relief and delivered immediately. Smith rolled to the right and sold the run and took Kent’s defense from position. That left behind tightly CALLAHAN CADE Everything only in the end zone, and Smith found him easy for the two -point conversion.

Smith ended the game with 30 Yards won on four Carry’s.

The defense of Merrimack came with a game-changing game immediately after the Sweitzer-Touchdown. Bryce Warrick Stormed in the back field and killed the ball from CJ Montes on a bag. Adrian Rufo hit the mess, set up a field goal of 45 meters by Carlton Thai That gave the Warriors their first lead of the game late in the fourth quarter.

In general, Merrimack’s defense dictated the pace. The Warriors kept State stuck to just 305 in total, the run game bottled at 2.6 yards per Carry and forced that critical turnover.

As soon as the field goal of Thai had seen, Merrimack got his first lead than a disaster in special teams. Da’Realyst Clark van Kent State took the subsequent kick-off more than 100 meters to the house and reversed the scoreboard in favor of the Golden Flash, 21-17.

The Warriors had opportunities to bring Clark down before he crossed the midfield, but missed tackles kept him upright. Once he broke loose, it was open field of him, and the momentum of the game too.

The Warriors moves the ball 34 Yards on 11 plays on their next ride, but knows State put the game away and forced a turnover on Downs to go with less than two minutes.

Not related to football itself, Merrimack revealed new uniforms from New Balance on Saturday and they were an immediate upgrade.

I will now say this: I was never a fan of the old Under Armor look. Too bland, too generic.

However, the new balance design checks every box. The yellow-white stripe that runs along the center of the helmet is a daring, clean touch and the Shield logo on the sides pops much more than the traditional “MC” ever done-althans when it comes to football uniforms. The completely white setup, to replace the dark pants on the road uniforms, was another smart move. I am excited to see the new home uniforms debuting next week.

Simply put, these uniforms are sharp.

  • Jabari Echols And Bryce Warrick Each registered a bag; Warrick added four tackles for loss in a disturbing performance.

  • Seth Sweitzer Was focused six times and Merrimack led with 59 Yards on three catches, including a touchdown.

  • Jalen McDonald If the Warriors walked up with 10 goals.

  • Ayden Pereira Finished as the leading Rusher van Merrimack, with Aveon Smith second. The best non-quarterback hardloper was Brandon Wyattwho has managed 21 yards on eight Carry’s.

  • Kendal Sims Led the defense with nine tackles, while safety RJ Chapman posted a team-high five solo stops.

  • Carlton Thai Went 3-out-4 in his debut as Kicker from Merrimack, marked by a 45-year field goal that the Warriors briefly led the fourth quarter.

  • Mike Ryan Was stable in the punishing game, on average almost 50 meters per boot.

  • Following: The Warriors return home to play St. Anselm next Saturday evening under the Lights in Duane Stadium. Kickoff is set at 6 p.m.
