Olivia Gadecki and John Peers kept their cool and achieved another victory on home soil at the Australian Open on Friday.

The home favorites defeated Manuel Guinard and Kristina Mladenovic 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 at Rod Laver Arena to successfully defend their mixed doubles title at the hard-court major. Gadecki and Peers are the first team to win back-to-back mixed doubles titles at Melbourne Park since Jana Novotna and Jim Pugh in 1988-89, while they are the first Australians to do so since Margaret Court and Ken Fletcher in 1963-64.

“I don’t really know where to start. I can’t believe we’re in this position right now,” Gadecki said during the awards ceremony. “First of all I would like to thank our opponents for such a great match. You have had such a great week, so congratulations. Peersy, [thanks] because you want to play with me again this year. Thank you very much for allowing me to share the court with you. It’s incredible to hold the trophy again this year.

“I knew we could do it, but I didn’t think we could actually do it, if you know what I mean!”

Peers told Gadecki, “I’m a little speechless. Thank you for playing with me again this week, and somehow we kind of snuck away with it. It was so much fun sharing the court with you and enjoying every moment here.”

Despite dropping serve three times en route to losing the opening set, wildcard pair Gadecki and Peers quickly regained their composure and rallied to victory. They took the only break of the second set in the fourth game, before rallying from 5/7 to claim the Match Tie-break by winning five of the last six points, according to Infosys Stats.

it was the third major mixed doubles crown for Peers, a former No. 2 player in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings who also won the 2022 US Open alongside fellow Australian Storm Sanders. Meanwhile, it was a second Grand Slam title for WTA star Gadecki after her win at Melbourne Park in 2025 alongside Peers.
