Learner Tien’s breakthrough campaign in 2025 continued with his first ATP title at the Moselle Open on Saturday afternoon. Tien came back from 5-1 down in the third set tiebreak to beat Cameron Norrie 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(6).
The 19-year-old American scored five points in a row and took a 6-5 lead in the ‘breaker’. He missed his first championship point, but used a second chance at 7-6 to cross the finish line in two hours and ten minutes.
“I never take it for granted, just coming here and competing,” Tien said during the trophy presentation. “So holding this trophy just means the world to me, and I’m just very grateful. I want to thank my team, those who are here, those who are home, for all the support, for everything this whole year and always.”
With his victory in Metz, Tien climbed ten places to a career-high ranking of No. 28 in the world. It is almost certain that he will be seeded at the 2026 Australian Open.
The southpaw has one event left on his 2025 schedule if he decides to play. He currently sits in third place in the race to the NextGen ATP Finals, trailing only Jakub Mensik and Joao Fonseca. Tien finished second behind Fonseca at the 2024 event, so he could be tempted to appear again in Jeddah in the hope of going one step further.
