Newcastle United have qualified for the draw for the Champions League play-offs.
A brilliant performance in Paris, coming so close to victory and automatically progressing to the last 16.
However, the 1-1 draw means that both Newcastle United and PSG are in the Champions League play-off draw.
The draw for the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League play-off stage will take place on Friday, January 30 at 11am.
The draw will be streamed live on UEFA.com and on the official UEFA Champions League app.
The draw for the play-offs sees teams finish from ninth to 24th in the league stage, with the top eight teams in the league stage having automatically qualified for the round of 16.
The draw for the Champions League play-offs will take place at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland, and this is how UEFA explains what will happen…
‘A. The clubs will be paired according to their position at the end of the competition phase to form four seeded pairs (clubs in positions 9 and 10, 11 and 12, 13 and 14, and 15 and 16) and four unseeded pairs (positions 17 and 18, 19 and 20, 21 and 22, and 23 and 24).
B. The clubs of each seeded pair will play in the knockout stage against the clubs of each unseeded pair: clubs 9 or 10 against clubs 23 or 24, clubs 11 or 12 against clubs 21 or 22, clubs 13 or 14 against clubs 19 or 20, and clubs 15 or 16 against clubs 17 or 18.’
PSG finished 11th with the same goal difference and points as Newcastle United, the French club only finishing higher based on goals scored, leaving NUFC 12th in the Swiss League stage.
So in Friday’s Champions League play-off draw, PSG and Newcastle United are paired together, just as the clubs that finished 21st (Monaco) and 22nd (Qarabag FK) are paired together.
Newcastle United will therefore be drawn against Monaco or Qarabag FK, with PSG getting the other of that pair that NUFC does not.
