It’s Friday February 13th and I just sent Nelly to school here on Koh Lanta. I’ll be there myself in a few hours – because every Friday the school day ends with a joint meeting for students and parents. Before that I have time to complete some padel administration and accounting, but first I will write down the usual Friday five. Let’s see what’s on your mind today!

#1. To (actually!) not hate Friday the 13th and air travel
It may seem a little strange that when I think about disaster, I’m completely unconcerned about some of the things that seem to stress others out. Flying for example! I have no problem at all getting on a plane, on the contrary, I find it quite pleasant. If we crash, there’s not much we can do about it. That’s what I think. The same goes for the idea that today’s date, Friday the 13th, is some kind of unlucky day. Since I was born on March 13, a Thursday of course, 13 is the opposite of my lucky number!
#2. Valentine’s Day promotions galore
Marketing listen, it’s a jungle! Sometimes quite funny, depending on whether you are the sender or receiver. Recently Tobias and I were having lunch on the beach when out of nowhere he shouted something like: “I’ve discovered how to get more players to the mixed series in padel! We’re launching a Valentine’s Day campaign that will allow all couples who haven’t tried it yet to play a round for free!”
This is what our lives look like every day of the year (sometimes around the clock). Running your own business means constant communication about ideas, thoughts and plans to balance the difficult art of managing and developing the business.
#3. Photo depression
I’m struggling a bit with thoughts about my photography. Lately, yes Real has consciously chosen not to bring out the mobile phone and camera this quarter. Partly to save my family, partly for myself. I want to be able to enjoy individual moments and moments without having to constantly immortalize them in photos for time and eternity.

Of course it helps that my favorite camera (and lens) still needs a successor. My old iPhone is struggling, but the camera lens is getting worse every day. This in turn means that I experience mild photo depression. Hopefully that feeling will turn around soon!
#4. Parallel travel plans
I enjoy talking about and planning trips, perhaps a little too much for some family members’ tastes. Being on a dream trip and wanting to make plans for the next dream trip at the same time can seem a bit strange. But that’s how I work! Here in Thailand I’m outlining the spring trip to Scotland – which will require a detour to the Outer Hebrides.

Checking ferry routes and accommodation really makes the trip feel feasible! Before I leave Thailand, I also want to enjoy this summer’s family vacation, I guess we’ll see how that turns out.
#5. OS fever
Despite the lack of snow and freezing temperatures, Olympic fever is also prevalent in Thailand. How nice it is to unite in the wonderful world of sports. Tears of joy and disappointment, success stories and despair, but also unexpected press conferences: what a rollercoaster these days offer!

At some point in my life I would love to experience an Olympic Games on site! During my first semester in Berlin, I actually lived next to the Olympic Stadium. Even though it has been 90 (!) years since the 1936 games were held at the location, it is still a special feeling to enter the enormous stadium where I swam a few times.
Here are some of my thoughts on Friday, February 13, 2026. And with that I can take the opportunity to wish you a wonderful weekend!
