Djokovic, who defeated Nadal and Federer in the all-time Grand Slam race, is the only Big Three member still active.
After struggling with serious injuries in the last years of his career, Nadal retired from professional tennis last year at the age of 38. Federer barely played in his last three active seasons on Tour, and he was 41 when his career officially ended at the 2022 Laver Cup.
Cerundolo, 27, conducted an interview with an Argentinian publication. During one segment, the three-time ATP champion was asked to choose the Big Three he would ask as his coach. And the Argentinian did not hesitate and quickly mentioned Djokovic. The 27-year-old noted that he has been hugely impressed by the Serbian’s physicality and professionalism, and for that reason he believes he can learn some lessons from the world number four.
Cerundolo: Physically, Djokovic is the strongest of them all
“I’m going to choose Djokovic. I think he is physically the strongest of them all, the one who has had the fewest injuries, and he is prolonging his tennis career almost like Federer. At 38, almost 39, he is playing against the best in the world like it is nothing and fighting at full speed,” the world number 21 told the Argentine publication. Infobae.
“So he must have done something, both physically and in terms of his tennis. And from what I hear, he has always been the most professional in that area and the most obsessed with food, training and rest, more than the others. It’s like that took him to another level.”
At the age of 38, Djokovic reached four Grand Slam semifinals this year, won two ATP 250 titles and finished the year in the top 5.
Meanwhile, Cerundolo won no titles this year, but he finished second in Buenos Aires and made four more ATP semi-finals.
