Our latest Scout Notes focuses on the competition between Nottingham Forest and Brentford, such as Chris Wood (£ 7.5 million) got his season in impressive style.
Wood draws
Although the statistics can suggest a narrow competition, Forest was by far the better team on the city.
After a quiet pre-season, the difficult trees race in a 3-0 half-time lead, thanks to two goals of wood and one of And ndoye (£ 6.0 million).
Wood, who converted slightly less than 30% of his shots in 2024/25, demonstrated his clinical ability again.
His first goal, a loop attempt from a corner, was followed by a calm slot finish.
The Kiwi striker was clearly picked up from where he had stayed last season, with a few decent competitions that still come, especially in game week 3, 5 and 6:
Nuno mainly used his proven and trusted on Sunday, but there was a place for Ndoye, the £ 36 million wing player from Bologna.
He was one of the best artists in Forest and rose brilliantly to feed a header home.
“Then played well today, he stayed on his defensive duties, which is always important, but he is so talented and honest, I think he has much more to give.” – strict
Gibbs-White + Anderson Superb
Morgan Gibbs-White (£ 7.5 million) and Elliot Anderson (£ 5.5 million) were central to the victory of the forest.
Gibbs-White supplied a nice ball in the box for Ndoye to go home, because he created three opportunities for his teammates.
As far as Anderson is concerned, interception has turned into a beautiful assist for wood.
He picked up the strings from a deeper role and also picked up three shots and 11 defensive contributions (Defons), only one short of the threshold of midfield.
“Elliot [Anderson] is like Morgan [Gibbs-White] They see things that are not always there. As soon as the ball fell with him, I wanted to get in the back, he split the defense incredibly for me to store my second. “ – Chris Wood
In general it was a super start for Nuno Espirito Santo, who still has James McATEE (£ 5.5 million) and Omari Hutchinson To add to his forest team.
Thiago on pens
Brentford recovered at least some pride in the second half, but this was a bad achievement for Keith Andrews in his first game that was in charge.
New signing sessions Keelher Keelher (£ 4.5 million) and Antony (£ 5.5 million) started while Jordan Henderson (£ 5.0 million) was in the bank.
For important parts, however, Brentford seemed unorganized and devoid of trust because they gave four big opportunities, most of each team in Gameweek 1 to date.
The only real positive thing they can follow next week against Aston Villa is the goal.
Igor Thiago (£ 6.0 million) Only 20 touches succeeded, but he wiped out the forest -clean leaf from the penalty spot and sent the right through the middle for his first Premier League goal.
It will be interesting to see what he can offer this season in FPL after an interrupted start of his bee career after a meniscus injury in 2024/25.
Yoane warned (£ 7.5 million) In the meantime, it was not at all in the MatchDay team of Brentford, after he recently linked a move to Newcastle United.
“It means a lot to me – I want to score more goals for them. I want them to keep singing my name. I feel happy with my first goal, and I hope I score more for the club. It was a difficult game, a difficult first half, but we kept going. I think we did well in the second half and the press.” – Igor Thiago
Why Damsgaard missed / damage returns
Mikkel Damsgaard (£ 6.0 million) was not in the Brentford team after the birth of his baby.
In his absence, Milambo was used in the No. 10 roll, but it was only after he had been replaced by the recurring Kevin Damage (£ 7.0 million) – which by the way was brilliant – that Brentford began to show a greater attacking threat.
“There is an element of some players who catch up on not having a smooth pre-season. Damsgaard came from the team with his wife the birth. That was a bit of a knock. I will be the fact that it was not good enough in the first half. It will not define us and it will not define us.
“Kevin [Schade] brought us the threat we didn’t have in the first half. There is a trip for a few players who come back from injury. Kevin is one of those players, but we build him and he will be a huge player for us. “ – Keith Andrews
Elsewhere, Sepp van de Berg (£ 4.5 million) produced 14 Defons from a Center-Rugol, something we discussed in the preseason, while Ethan Pinnock (£ 4.5 million) missed with a knock.
