He is confronted with a maximum of five years in prison
A former NFL player, Leshon Johnson, was found guilty by a jury about dog fights in Oklahoma.
According to the Ministry of Justice, the former running was back condemned On six crime counts of violating the forbidden of the Federal Animal Welfare Act against owning, selling, transporting and delivering animals to use in fighting companies. The government arrested 54-year-old Johnson in October after federal agents seized 190 dogs from the Pit-Bull-Type in what they described as an important dog battle kennel in Oklahoma. A date is not yet planned for his conviction.
Johnson is confronted with a maximum prison sentence of five years and a fine of a maximum of $ 250,000 with each count.
“This criminal benefited from the misery of innocent animals, and he will have serious consequences for his mean crimes,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi in a written statement. “This case underlines the dedication of the Ministry of Justice to protect animals against abuse – 190 dogs are now safe thanks to excellent cooperation work by our lawyers and components for law enforcement.”
In March an indictment was unleashed about Johnson’s operation of ‘Mal Kant Kennels’. He was accused of breeding and acting of “champion” and “big champion” dogs and their offspring for fighting. The 190 dogs that were taken from his property made the largest number ever seized one person in a federal dog fight.
Johnson had an earlier conviction for dog fights in 2004.
“The FBI will not stand for those who maintain the despicable crime of dog fights,” said Kash Patel director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). “Thanks to the hard work of our law enforcement partners, those who continue to participate in organized animal fights and cruelty will be confronted.”
The Marshals service of the United States ensures dogs that are confiscated in dog fights through its assetfoot program.
Johnson played in the NFL for the Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals and the New York Giants in the nineties.
