Kemp argues guilty of abuse
Former NBA All-Star Shawn Kemp was convicted after he has explained guilty of second-degree attack that comes from a shooting in March 2023 outside Tacoma Mall. Justice officers accused Kemp of shooting at two people while trying to restore items that were reportedly stolen from his car.
Initially, Kemp did not owe two counts of first -grade attack. He later reached a plea and admitted that he was the lesser indictment for second -degree attack.
Details for conviction
The 55-year-old was sentenced to 30 days in prison, but the judge ruled that he could serve the time at home. Kemp was also instructed to complete 240 hours of community service and to spend 12 months in the custody of the community, a form of guided release in Washington.
Officers of Justice had asked for a prison sentence of nine months. However, the judge opted for the lighter punishment and emphasized the seriousness of the case.
“I can’t say strong enough that this could easily have been avoided by just walking away. Property is replaceable, not human life,” the judge said.
Kemp, which appeared in a navy jacket and light blue tie, reportedly looked stoic when the sentence was read. He told the court that he was ‘very apologetic’ for his actions.
Contradictory accounts
Nobody was injured in the shooting. Kemp’s lawyers argued that he acted in self -defense after following a stolen mobile to the shopping center. They claimed that he only shot after he was shot.
The Tacoma police said, however, that their investigation has not confirmed that version of events. A likely cause statement noted that Kemp sent a SMS message minutes for the recordings stating: “I am about to photograph this (expletive).” Surveillance images also showed that he was already armed when he approached a Toyota 4runner, where he believed that his phone was.
The police said that Kemp shot into the vehicle three times before he throw away his gun in nearby bushes. The driver popped up and rushed away. The entire meeting took about five minutes.
Kemp’s inheritance
Kemp, a six-fold all-star, became one of the most exciting players in the NBA in the nineties with the Seattle Supersonics. He later played for Cleveland, Portland and Orlando before retired in 2003. Known for its peak-reel Dunks, Kemp remains a popular figure in Seattle, where he now has two recognized cannabis stores.
