Former Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Luis Garcia signed a one-year, $1.75 million contract with the New York Mets on Wednesday.

Garcia’s deal also includes $1.25 million in incentives, bringing the potential value of his contract to $3 million.

When did Luis Garcia pitch for the Dodgers?

The Dodgers signed Garcia to a minor league deal ahead of the 2025 season, but the right-hander found his way to the major league roster at the start of the regular season.

Garcia played 28 games for the Dodgers in 2025, mostly during LA’s early-season injury crisis. He had a 5.27 ERA through 27.1 innings and failed to convert on his only team save opportunity.

Los Angeles placed Garcia on the 15-day injured list with a right adductor strain on June 1, 2025, and designated him for assignment before releasing him upon his return from injury a month later.

The Washington Nationals picked him up a few days later and ultimately traded him to the Angels at the trade deadline in exchange for two prospects. Garcia had a solid season after leaving the Dodgers, posting a 0.90 ERA in 10 games for the Nationals and a 2.00 ERA in 20 games for the Angels.

Garcia made a total of 58 appearances in 2025, posting an ERA of 3.42 through 55.1 innings pitched. He is expected to receive a World Series ring after the Dodgers’ victory in the Fall Classic last season.

How has Luis Garcia performed during his career?

Garcia, a 13-year veteran, has managed eight different teams during his MLB tenure.

He started his career with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2013 and remained in the NL East through the 2018 season. Garcia had a 4.12 ERA with the Phillies in 251 appearances, striking out 223 batters in 244.2 innings pitched.

The Phillies traded him to the Angels prior to the 2019 season, and after the move he switched teams almost annually. After the Angels, he played one season for the Texas Rangers, one season for the St. Louis Cardinals and two seasons for the San Diego Padres.

He found his way back to the Angels for the 2024 season, although they traded him to the Boston Red Sox at the deadline.

Through his 603 career appearances, Garcia has a 4.07 ERA in 583.1 innings pitched.

The veteran will look to add another ring to his collection in 2025 with the Mets, who have made aggressive offseason moves in recent weeks to improve their chances of competing next season.
