The Philadelphia Flyers did not even hit the ice for the 2025-26 season, but friendly tensions may already be between their dynamic young star and new head coach.
Rising phenomenon Matvei Michkov raised eyebrows this week when he admitted that he is not a fan of the dump-and-chase style that Tocchet seems to be a fan of or believes that the flyers will help this season. In an interviewMichkov revealed that he often ignored instructions to dump the puck, instead prefer to wear it in the zone.

Tocchet will have to find the line between giving Michkov the freedom to create plays that John Tortorella had demonstrably difficulty in making. At the same time, Michkov must be held responsible for his game.
