The Edmonton Oilers have announced that they have expanded head coach Kris Knoblauch, who is now ready to stay behind the couch for the club until the end of the 2028-29 season.

Knoblauch was brought in by the Oilers only 13 games in the 2023-24 season after the club started a 3-9-1 record under Jay Woodcroft. The Oilers ended the season with a record of 46-18-5 in the last 69 games and followed that with a 48-29-5 record in 2024-25.
Knoblauch, on the way to his third season with the oilers, brought the team to back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals, but was short every time.
Sitting in fifth place in the all time of all coaches to coach more than one season, Knoblauch has had an impeccable start of his NHL coaching career. Although the oilers are a very well -built team with a lot of talent, Knoblauch’s coaching is not something to forget when it comes to the success of the team.
Knoblauch spoke with the media after the announcement of the expansion and for the preview of the oilers closer to the Vancouver Canucks. During the statement, Knoblauch said: “I am very blessed with having talented players, but also players with an excellent character who want to win.”
The oilers have a number of important players who are signed, and the oilers can keep their window open, with the exception of Connor McDavid, who still have to sign an extension. The oilers want to expand their content options and keep Knoblauch around is clearly a priority for the club.
