Rashid Khan has the last laugh
Rashid Khan, who was beaten for 15 runs after the first over as Glenn Phillips hit him for a six and later a boundary, this wicket was a comeback of sorts for the experienced leg-spinner, who had a burst after the wicket.

Afghanistan will feel like they are out of the game, as will Tim Seifert, who was the last man to be dismissed after making a good score on 65 off 41 deliveries, and Mark Chapman has been left on the brink after the dismissal of Glenn Phillips. Darwish Abdul Rasooli scored 20 out of 13, and small cameos from Azmatullah Omarzai and Mohammad Nabi helped them post a good total.
New Zealand close to victory as Mark Chapman and Daryl Mitchell score quickly. The former has now reached 27 off 14 balls, and the latter is on 13 off 8. Afghanistan need to pick wickets to stay in the game; otherwise this game will end just before the 20th over.

Mark Chapman has been fired by Azmatullah Omarzai. This could be a signal for a new twist in the game. Earlier, when these two sides met at this event in the 2024 edition, Afghanistan created an upset by beating the Kiwis by 84 runs.
Afghanistan is one of the most improved teams in the world of cricket. They were the semi-finalists of the previous edition of the competition. They defeated Australia in the Super 8s to qualify for the last four of the major event, losing to South Africa. This year they are involved in a possible group of death, together with South Africa and New Zealand.
