Breeder owner Andrew Fry is offering five people a share in his one-year-old filly Aaliyah. By means of Dear Loushe is the first foal of former New Zealand record holder Ariella.
The filly is being prepared by Matty Williamson at his barn in Oamaru. She is described as “a smart, correct youngster who has already impressed the team with her natural gait and beautiful manners, having just completed her second pre-season.”
The five winners each own 2% of the filly and receive a percentage of all profits, without any fees.
“The winners get 100 percent of the benefits of horse ownership, without bills, without anything… people think I’m angry,” Fry says.
So why does he do it?
The main reason is that he wants to encourage new people to get an idea of what horse ownership entails, in the hope that they will expand their activities themselves and/or encourage other people to get involved.
“It’s a bit like buying a brand new car, isn’t it? You test drive it first. What’s the difference?”
A builder by trade, Fry has been breeding and racing horses for decades. Ariella was winner of five races. She set a 2YO Pacing Fillies New Zealand record (2:41.5) in the 2020 Caduceus Club Of Southland Classic. He is also in the ownership group of race winner Princess Sadie, also trained in the Williamson shed. (She also came fourth in the Grand Duchess of Group 2 at Addington last Friday)
