Final shame for captain-disaster Alexander Isak

Final shame for captain-disaster Alexander Isak

2 minutes, 43 seconds Read

Earlier this week, Alexander Isak stated:

“I want to be a leader and feel a responsibility, both on and off the field.”

Swedish manager Jon Dahl Tomasson responded to the Liverpool striker’s statement by making him captain for Friday night’s must-win match against Switzerland.

You know how you can’t believe why anyone would ever make Bruno Fernandes captain of Manchester United?

If it’s about making Alexander Isak a captain, multiply that a thousand times.

A Friday night match that Sweden HAD to win and yet Alexander Isak is an absolute disgrace, completely anonymous and Sweden not even a single shot on target.

Switzerland absolutely dominates Alexander Isak and Sweden at the Strawberry Arena, with the Swiss winning 2-0, but it could and should have been double and more.

One can only guess what United’s Anthony Elanga was thinking about this absolute mess as he watched from the bench, Tomasson refusing to take off Isak or Gyokeres and the two were absolutely sad as the Swedish World Cup final has all but disappeared.

Defeats at home and away to Switzerland now make it mathematically almost impossible, with three group matches to play, to finish top of the group and automatically qualify for next summer’s World Cup finals.

Many fingers in Sweden are now pointing at Alexander Isak, the striker who behaved so selfishly and unprofessionally last summer and refused to train and play, leaving him completely unprepared to play the opening stages of this season. Sweden now sees its chances of appearing in the 2026 World Cup final all but gone.

This is the October 2025 international fixture list for Newcastle United players:

Thursday October 9

England 3 Wales 0

Anthony Gordon with an excellent first half, as did most of his teammates. England took a 3-0 lead after just twenty minutes and as the match progressed they cruised to victory making numerous substitutions. Gordon is the only one of the front six to play the full game, while Dan Burn is an unused sub.

Friday October 10

South Korea 0 Brazil 5

A world-class assist from Bruno Guimaraes saw Estevao score the opener in this friendly. Joelinton remained on the bench for the entire match and Bruno dropped out after 79 minutes.

Sinnyy 4 LUXEMBOURG 0

An excellent team performance with Nick Woltemade in the lead for Germany.

The Newcastle United striker didn’t score himself but led the line so well, with his link-up play and all-round play helping to secure an impressive victory in this World Cup group qualifier.

Sweden 0 Switzerland 2

Newcastle’s Anthony Elanga watches from the bench as the must-win group qualifier for the World Cup ended in defeat.

Sweden now has virtually no chance of appearing in the 2026 final.

With three group matches left to play, Sweden is eight points behind Switzerland.
