Another day of FIH Pro League action delivered everything from clinical dominance to late-game drama as the momentum shifted sharply in four riveting matches. Big scores, milestone moments and decisive moves in the fourth quarter set the tone in matches played in both the men’s and women’s competitions.
The Belgian men and Dutch women emerged with statement wins, combining attacking precision with sustained pressure, while England, Germany and Pakistan showed quality amid challenging matches. From comeback wins to goal-packed thrillers, the day highlighted the fine margins and relentless pace that characterize the Pro League.
(Men) Belgium 4 – 1 Germany
Belgium did well to bounce back from Thursday’s disappointing shootout defeat to England, in which Germany were beaten 4-1.
Although the Germans string together some good periods of play, Belgium were the dominant force throughout the match and Alexander Hendrickx opened the scoring for them in somewhat unusual fashion in the 6th minute. He shot his drag move low into the space vacated by a postman who had clearly lost sight of the ball behind the defending runners. Goalkeeper Loic Van Doren made an excellent one-on-one save from Germany’s only chance in the opening quarter, and Belgium were perhaps lucky when the Germans failed to connect with a glorious ball across the circle with no defenders around and the goal practically open.
Jean-Paul Danneberg did an excellent job in the German goal to keep them in the fight, including an acrobatic diving gauntlet, except on his left side. However, the pressure was relentless and Hendrickx doubled Belgium’s lead with another drag move in the 26th minute, while Thomas Crols fired home from close range to make it 3-0 at half-time.
Belgium continued to suffocate their opponents in the second half, but the two best chances, for Thibeau Stockbroekx from close range and Tom Boon from the top of the circle, went wide. Boon inevitably added his name to the scoresheet in the 50th minute, making a delicate pass into the circle and following the play all the way to the far post for the tap-in. Germany created a couple of late chances and it was Malte Hellwig who fired home for their consolation goal in the 59th minute.

Belgian Tom Boon was named player of the match and said: “I think I should have scored more today, I had a lot of chances. But we had a really solid performance, we let it go a bit in the last ten minutes with a lot of turnovers, but I think we were really the better team all game, and it was a really good performance.”
(Ladies) Belgium 2 – 1 England
Charlotte Englebert celebrated her 100th cap in style, captaining Belgium as they came from behind in a hard-fought 2-1 win over England.
The Belgians enjoyed the early dominance, but their only real chance fell to Englebert, who pulled her shot wide. England improved as the first quarter progressed and Darcy Bourne fired them ahead in the 14th minute, receiving the ball in the circle and striking well on the turn. In the second quarter, Belgium again pressed hard in the opening minutes, after which England menacingly tried to extend their 1-0 lead by half-time.
A messy third quarter was played mainly in the middle third of the pitch as both teams repeatedly turned over possession. However, the chances continued to fall for Belgium and Englebert found the equalizer in the 42nd minute, receiving the ball unmarked in the circle and hammering home her shot. The Red Panthers found a higher gear in the final quarter, keeping possession for long periods and attacking the circle almost at will. As England defended tenaciously, the match seemed destined to end in a shootout, but Stephanie Vanden Borre held her nerve to seal victory for Belgium with a well-taken penalty just a minute from time.

Stephanie Vanden Borre was named player of the match for the Belgians and said: “We didn’t have a good start. I think our first half was a bit of a waste of time. Then they scored the first goal and I think in the second half we started playing hockey, we started playing our game.”
(Men) Pakistan 3 – 7 Netherlands
A ten-goal thriller unfolded in Argentina, with the Netherlands eventually pulling away from Pakistan in a 7-3 win, with a flurry of late goals following an already action-packed match.
The Netherlands struck decisively in the second quarter, scoring three goals in the space of six minutes to take control. A low penalty corner from Timo Boers was deftly deflected by Thijs van Dam at the far post to open the score. Jorrit Croon’s persistent individual pressure drew the defenders towards the circle before Guus Jansen went into space to fire a shot that was redirected from the air by Thierry Brinkman for 2-0. The third goal came from a smooth give-and-go that went straight through the Pakistani circle. The ball eventually passed from Terrance Pieters to Jansen, who unleashed a top-shelf backhand to make it 3-0 at halftime.
Pakistan showed renewed intent in the third quarter. A penalty corner from Sufyan Khan beat Derk Meijer, but Croon created a remarkable clearance in the air to secure the shutout. Sustained pressure followed, with Hannan Shahid driving into the circle before being closed off by Meijer. Khan eventually converted a penalty corner and slid the ball low into the corner to pull Pakistan back to 3-1. The Dutch responded just before half-time, with Brinkman hammering a rising backhand to restore the three-goal buffer to 4-1.
The goals kept coming late. A penalty corner was stopped on the line by Sufyan Khan’s body, resulting in a penalty that Boers converted for the Netherlands’ sixth. Pakistan responded through a strong midfield transition as a driven ball across the circle found Waheed Rana, who finished low past Meijer. In the final three minutes, Croon remained unmarked in the circle and smashed home with his backhand to make it 7-2, before Pakistan had the final say with a thunderous tap-in from Khan to round out the score at 7-3.

After the match, Guus Jansen was named Player of the Match and said: “It was a bit of a chaotic match, even though we scored seven goals, we conceded three. We can be happy with the goals we score and the technical play, but we need to improve our defense when we return to play against Argentina tomorrow.”
(Ladies) Netherlands 5 – 1 Germany
Germany and the Netherlands produced an entertaining match, with the Dutch making a late start to secure a convincing 5-1 victory.
Both teams traded early chances in a high-quality opening, but the scoreless first quarter proved short-lived. In the 20th minute, Freeke Moes made a driving run up the field before sliding the ball to Fay van der Elst, whose backhand found the backboards and put the Netherlands ahead.
The Dutch doubled their lead in the 41st minute through an excellently executed penalty corner from Yibbi Jansen, before reversing the style in the final quarter. The standout moment came when Luna Fokke unleashed a thunderous attack from the top of the circle to make it 3-0.
Germany responded by saving a missed shot from a penalty corner, with captain Lisa Nolte grabbing the bouncing ball, driving into the circle and sending an effort past Josine Koning to reduce the deficit. The Netherlands quickly reasserted control and forced a high turnover that left Marijn Veen in the hunt for a fourth, before Jansen capped the scoring in the final minute with her second penalty corner, glove side, sealing a 5-1 victory and a further three points.

Netherlands’ Luna Fokke was named player of the match, saying: “I think the first half was a bit tough, but the second half we did better and it was a fun game. We can keep improving so we’ll see tomorrow and then the last game on Sunday.”
