Uno Shoma: ‘It is important to enjoy what I do’
Joy remains at the root of the life of Uno. When he retired last year, he left with a smile, no tears and zero regret about a career for which many would kill.
Uno chased Nathan Chen And Hanyu YuzuruThe two skaters he admired the most, who feed his motivation to compete. Now Uno finds his drive in working with others, not against.
Uno now even sees figure skating in a different light. As a competitor it was all about the jumps. Nowadays he is made to think deeper about things like expression – and the elements that form the whole.
Working on ‘Ice Brave’ has been a liberating experience for UNO. As a producer, he has to worry about every detail of the show, including the other artists, while when he skated singles, the focus was exclusively on its own and how the maximum could come from Uno Shoma.
“I have always skated only, not only in ice dance, but also to skate with others, like a couple, is very nice,” he says. ‘No matter how tired you are You are not the only one So you can continue and because you have someone there, it’s easy to push your limits. And I think it’s great that you can have such a mentality.
“Personally, I always had this idea that an ice show is something that you look quietly in your chair, but for mine, I wanted it to be a performance, something that fans feel that they could be part of it. That was in the first place.
“But we were able to realize everything I had imagined and wanted to see from the beginning. I am really happy that I ‘did Ice bravely’.”
It is still to be seen where the Uno journey will go after this weekend. Yet it should certainly be an interesting one.
“First of all, it is important to enjoy what I do. But if a time comes when I feel stronger about aiming higher than pleasure. Then I will put pleasure on hold and work hard on what that is.
“But everything I do now is built on skating. I try not to be modest here. If I have been sure that I can do something, I will say it. If not, I will say that I can’t.
‘If I am asked in the future, I will be clear about what I can or cannot do. To feel that I have left everything as a skater when it is all said and done, that is for the time being my primary goal. “
