Ferrari has cemented the future of team director Fred Vasseur, with the Frenchman signing a multi-year contract extension.
Vasseur joined Ferrari at the start of the 2023 season, and last year the team only fell 14 points when winning the Constructors Championship after a strong second half of the year. By adding Lewis Hamilton this season to his line-up, Ferrari is again second in the rankings, but 268 points on Drift van McLaren and still has to win another race, which leads to some speculation about Vasseur’s position earlier this year among the Italian media.
Despite the disappointing season so far against the background of the Title Hoop, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna says that a strong basis has been established on which the team wants to build on under Vasseur.
“Today we want to recognize what has been built and record what still needs to be achieved,” said Vigna. “It reflects our confidence in the leadership of Fred – a confidence rooted in shared ambition, mutual expectations and clear responsibility. We will continue with determination and focus, united in our striving for the level of performance level that Ferrari should strive for.”
Vasseur came to Ferrari from Alfa Romeo just over two years ago and says that Ferrari has made progress at the time, but is well aware that the team has more to do for the introduction of new regulations in 2026.
“I am grateful for the Trust Ferrari keeps placing in me,” said Vasseur. “This renewal is not only a confirmation – it is a challenge to stay further, to stay focused and deliver.
“In the past 30 months we have laid strong foundations, and now we have to build on this with consistency and determination. We know what is expected, and we are all fully committed to meet those expectations and put the next step together.”
Vasseur is already the Joint-Second longest serving team principle on the grid next to Andrea Stella near McLaren, and behind only Mercedes boss Toto Wolff.
