Bangladesh ended their ODI series against West Indies in emphatic fashion, registering a 179-point win in the third and final match at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, to claim the series 2-1.
Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hassan lead Bangladesh’s batting side
After opting to bat first, the hosts posted an impressive 296/8 on the board, powered by dazzling half-centuries from Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hassan, before dismantling the West Indies batting line-up in just 30.1 overs.
Sarkar, who was later named Player of the Match, continued his excellent form with a fluent 91 off 86 balls, hitting seven fours and four sixes. His opening partner Saif provided equally strong support with an explosive 80 off 72 deliveries, peppered with six boundaries and as many sixes. The pair added a brilliant partnership of 142 runs for the first wicket, providing the perfect platform for Bangladesh’s innings.
After the blistering start, former captain Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed an impressive 44 off 55 balls, with three sixes, while Towhid Hridoy played a patient 28 off 44. Despite a mid-order slump, quick cameos from Nurul Hasan (16 off 8) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (17 off 17) pushed Bangladesh close to the 300-run mark.
West Indian bowlers endured a tough outing, although Akeal Hosein stood out with a superb spell of 4/41 in his 10 overs, expertly combining flight and control. Alick Athanaze also scored with 2/37, while Roston Chase and Gudakesh Motie claimed a wicket each. However, the visitors leaked runs in the death overs, allowing Bangladesh to finish strongly at 296/8 in 50 overs.
West Indies collapse during a chase
Chasing 297 for victory, the West Indian innings never gained momentum. The visitors suffered an early collapse, losing captain Shai Hope (4 off 16) and Ackeem Auguste (0) within the first few overs. The Bangladesh bowlers exploited the surface expertly and maintained relentless pressure through spin and variation.
Brandon King topped the order with a quick 18 off 17 balls, while Alick Athanaze and Keacy Carty both made 15 runs each. The lower order offered little resistance, apart from Akeal Hosein, who hit a brave 27 off 15 deliveries with four boundaries and one six to delay the inevitable.
Bangladesh’s spinners orchestrated the demolition with surgical precision. Nasum Ahmed was the main destroyer, returning stunning figures of 3/11 in 6 overs. Tanvir Islam (2/16) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (2/35) kept tight lines, while Rishad Hossain added 3/54. West Indies were eventually bowled out for 117 in 30.1 overs, suffering one of the heaviest ODI defeats in recent history.
Bangladesh reaches series 2-1 with convincing win
This victory marked Bangladesh’s second win of the year and a fitting end to a competitive match. The home team had earlier won the first ODI by 74 runsbefore West Indies won the second match in a thrilling super over. With this dominant display in Mirpur, Bangladesh reaffirmed their growing strength in home conditions.

What happened to @windiescricket? 🇪đź‡
The money talks, the T20 leagues are winning. Top talent is continually drawn away by lucrative global contracts because national wage structures cannot compete.
As long as the basics are not in place (management and money), the struggle will continue.#BANvWI pic.twitter.com/NMjyzR5Qlf

On this terrible pitch, Windies leaked 296 runs… if there was any dignity left, Windies would never be allowed to play cricket again…#banvwi
