Hello everyone, and welcome to the first post bag of September. We have a little more than three weeks to go in the regular season, and despite what our play -off opportunities say, I still have hope at least one or two exciting after season races.

Play on Friday evening, 11 teams (six in the NL and five in all) had a better than 90% chance of reaching the play -offs; With 74.2%, the Mariners were the only club in possession of a play -off place that was on less solid soil. Three other teams could still spoil the pleasure of Seattle: the Rangers (12.5%), the royals (10.6%) and the rays (10.2%). Of the senior circuit teams that are not in a play -off position, the Giants (4.3%) had the best shot to grab a wildcard berth. For everyone who cheering for chaos, the Reds (2.3%) host the Mets, the current six seed, for three games this weekend; Cincinnati started the series five games behind New York.

Today we will not answer any questions about the play -off race, but we will touch a few players against warring teams. Before we come to them, however, a few quick things: first, thanks to Meg Rowley for putting together last week’s mail bag while I was on vacation, which I spent in Toronto watching baseball! My father and I had never been to Rogers Center, so we decided to check another ballpark from our list. Fangraphs also hires a full -time prospect writer.
