Near No-Hitter EVS Birmingham’s Division Series

Birmingham Barons 4, Chattanooga Lookouts 0 – Southern League Division Series Game 2
Faced with elimination after a loss of game 1, the barons did not tamper around Thursday and wore a no-hitter through 8 1/3 innings while he placed 10 hits as a team to even the series with the lookout.

LEFTHANDER HAGEN Smith was excellent in his first play -off start, in which he plowed through five Hitless Innings where he ran two and slammed 10 Chattanooga -stroke people to win his first professional Playoff victory. Hagen had struggled during the regular season with a high running speed (17.6%), but the 5: 1 strikeout to walking ratio was tonight a lot of More beautiful, and he kept Birmingham alive in the series to force a game 3.

Smith had set the tone for the pitching staff, because Reliever Jake Palisch was perfect through the next three frames, threw three and kept the combined no-hitter alive. Tyler Davis was on his way to the bottom of the ninth that it wanted to close, and he was almost able to achieve the no-no even the first from the inning. But Edwin Arroyo van de Watching sent a double to the left before Davis could finish it and achieve the victory for Smith.

Each seizure of the barons registered at least one hit, although Alec Makarewicz was the only batter with an extra base and more than one safety. In addition to the 10 hits, Rikuu Nishida was good for half of the runs that (two) had driven, although Birmingham also hit 10 times and left seven runners on the base. As a team they hit 3-out-8 with runners in a score position and one got one in the third and three in the fifth.

Nishida provided the barons with a 1-0 lead in the third in an RBI single to score Makarewicz, and Jordan Sprinkle attempt to score while the left lender made a mistake but was thrown away at home.

Alec and Rikuu’s show continued in the fifth, while Makarewicz doubled to distract the inning and Nishida housed the scoring rally on a squeeze bump that Makarewicz scored only a few batters later to take a two-run lead. William Bergolla, Sam Antonacci and Ryan Galanie have all tackled consecutive basehits that increased the barons that lead to four, so that there were enough insurance runs behind a pitching staff that apparently refused to give a Honunner.

Birmingham was a link when they had to be on the line in the series, and we are all tied now. The barons will try to reach back-to-back Southern League Championship Series on Friday evening in Chattanooga!

Durham Bulls 3, Charlotte Knights 2 ((Status box))
The lead flip-flopped for a few innings until the bulls (84-62) finally took over control and beat the knights (63-84), 3-2. Shane Murphy made his 23rd start of the season and lasted 4 2/3 after allowing two points to allow five hits, including a home run, four free runs and five strikeouts. Murphy at least kept Charlotte bound to two, but the bats just didn’t click.

Durham placed nine hits against Charlotte’s Four, and the Knights went 1-out-4 with runners in a score position while they left four on the bases as a team. The good guys started on a solid note when Corey Julks asked them on a solo bomb to lead the game, 1-0, but Murphy allowed the Bulls to do the same in the first of the third to bind it to one.

Tim Elko was one of the four batters who managed to get a hit for the knights, and he also collected half of the RBIs (it was one, but still half!) After driving in Dru Baker on a single on the bottom of the third to take the lead again. Unfortunately for Charlotte they do not score another point. Righthander Kyle Tyler was looking for the next 2 1/3, but he himself sabotaged by allowing the Go-Ahead run for Durham on his own Gooifout to set up the bulls a 3-2.

Peyton Pallette and Garrett Schoenle placed every scoreless innings, but the attack could not string hits together. Outside of a walk in the ninth, Durham only had to face the minimum number of Charlotte -strokers for the last three frames.

Charlotte rides on a three-game Losing Streak while this weekend they enter the last three games of the season, including a double header on Saturday to complete things. At the moment is the best thing we can hope for is to avoid a six-game sweep to end the year.
