Fangraphs now accepts requests to join our staff as a full -time writer of Prospect.

The prospect Writer will collaborate with lead prospectiveist Eric Longenhagen and other members of the Fangraphs employees to produce organizational perspectives, amateur design reporting and other Minor League and prospect-related content. A successful candidate can evaluate prospects with personal appearance, video exploration and data. Familiarity and comfort with advanced statistics is a requirement, just like earlier scouting or prospect evaluation experience and a determined understanding of the landscape of the Minor League. It is just as important that we are looking for a writer who can generate their own ideas, produce lively and fascinating prose and describe what makes a prospect good (or bad) in a way that is educational, accurate and fun to read.

Important responsibilities

  • Producing, both independently and in collaboration with other prospect writers, top perspective lists, which are approximately 1500 reconnaissance reports annually of around 1500 reconnaissance reports
  • Produce written reports and player expressions based on personal appearance and video exploration, as well as relevant data
  • Contribute to the coverage of the site’s amateur design
  • Produce other prospect -related content throughout the year
  • Help with maintaining the board
  • Assisting at Handelsdeadline and transaction coverage
  • Other writing as assigned

Skills

Minimum skills:

  • Previous exploration or prospect evaluation – experience
  • Deep fame with modern baseball statistics and the baseball landscapes of the Minor League and amateur
  • Familiarity with the scouting scale
  • A sharp eye for detail and high standards for accuracy and clarity
  • Possibility to work some weekends and evenings as required by the baseball calendar and news cycle. This position also requires periodic trips to games, as well as important scouting events and showcases.
  • Possibility to cultivate scouting and other baseball operations to find relevant information and data
  • Basic competence and fame with G-suite, e-mail and slack
  • HBO degree or equivalent experience

Desired skills:

  • Familiarity with SynergySports or other video scouting platforms
  • Familiarity with the SABR style guide
  • Experience with Multimedia -Production/Processing
  • Experience with working within a WordPress CMS

This is a full -time, employment position with benefits. Since Fangraphs is a web -based company, relocation is not required; This task can be completed at most geographical locations, as long as you have reliable internet access and are willing to work during the hours that readers are awake in the United States, although the proximity of the partners of the Minor League of Big Conference College -facilities are a strong plus.
