Fancy Like That jumps to victory

FORT WASHINGTON, MD. — Looking forward to it (Rusty is real) turned a third-over trip into a 9-1 harness race in Thursday’s (Feb. 5) event at Rosecroft Raceway, a top-level $10,000 pace.

In line with Eric Davis, Fancy Like That retreated to sixth in the seven-mare field, while Oh Ophelia (ridden by Roger Plante Jr.) and Stamphillshadow GB (Yogi Sheridan) battled through a :27.1 first-quarter duel. After a score of :57.4 in the half, Oh Ophelia faced a persistent but mild first-over bid from Phoenix Rising (Brian Burton) on the backstretch, and Fancy Like That hooked a three-wide angle to the circle, leaving the cover hanging with five sixteenths to go.

Oh Ophelia rejected Phoenix Rising’s challenge at three-quarters in 1:26.4 and had enough to keep pocket rival and third-placed Stamphillshadow GB well at bay down the stretch, but Fancy Like That surged deep to just catch Oh Ophelia at the end of a 1:56.3 mile.

Trainer Kasey Bendix co-owns Fancy Like That, a 5-year-old Rusty’s For Real-Scootin Woody mare who paid $21.40 to win, with Virginia Marvel.

Looking forward to such a repetition

Live harness racing returns to Rosecroft Raceway on Monday (February 9) with a carryover of $10,451 in the Jackpot Hi-5 offered in the final race. First post for the 13-race card is 7:15 PM (EST).
