In essence, autumn equinox – and autumn in general – is about balance. Day and night meet in length while we are ushered to the last stage of the year in which everyone seems to overcome by craving all things that are seasoned and attempts to bind to more things than is human. Because of all this, your yoga practice remains just as essential as always. So why not make a refuge of it?
By recording a number of subtle shifts, your time on the mat is easily converted into a sweet, slow, reassuring ritual linked to the season.
15 ways to change your yoga routine for autumn
1. Autumn is infused with warm light, so why not add any to your home exercise, either through small flames, dimmed lights or a golden hourly current.
2. If it is not too cold, take yoga to a park or your own backyard. Bundle at the beginning and remove layers while your exercise warms up.
3. Autumn is the perfect time for cleaning. Sort your yoga carderobe, clean your props and reorganize your mat, remedy your matte and come from unnecessary yoga-related junk.
4. Adjust your playlist. Choose Fall-theme soundtracks with films (so nostalgic) or any autumn playlist on Spotify.
5. Make dressing for a studio class A new ritual. Nice to make your journey to the studio and to warm up.
6. Loosen your wardrobe (or just change). Try a wide yoga pants instead of leggings, or exchange your tight tank for a worn T-shirt. Comfort is king.
7. Early the autumn equinox with a theme exercise, meditation or celebration.
8. Recovery practices tend to ask you to make yourself completely comfortable, at all blankets, but is out to bundle you and soothe you more than normal during backwards, including Savasana, regardless of the class style.
9. While you are busy, you also extend the covered, reinforced approach to your meditation practice.
10. The energy of autumn is steeped in change. Embodies the shift by trying a new studio or exchanging your regular class for something else.
11. Enjoy the scents of the season with the help of essential oils. Add drops of cinnamon, clove, sage or another natural aroma that autumn evokes to your wrists and breathes it in during your practice.
12. You guessed it – it’s time to visit that gratitude diary again. If you are not completely ready (or the idea rosters), try to identify a small thing that you are grateful every morning or evening.
13. Better yet, start to enjoy, aka deliberately enjoys everyday moments and experiences, including the poses that you usually rush through.
14. Practice no say – and yes! Now that the holiday is approaching, limits are essential. Listen to your body and intuition and do what is best for you on and next to the mat.
15. Fall brings his own swirling energies and events. Vertis things by leaning in your breath.
