Facelifted Tesla Model Y performance is not exciting and will not save Tesla – Jalopnik

There is a new Tesla in the block, and just like everything else that the company makes now, it will not move the needle for most people or the company’s order books. What we have here is the facial model Y performance. Think of it as a Model 3 performance on stilts, and at the moment it is only available in Europe.

Says Tesla The model Y performance must be able to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in about 3.3 seconds thanks to the 460 hp that its dual-engine setup lays down, and it has a top speed of 155 MPH. For reference, the current top-end model Y Long Range AWD makes approximately 380 hp and can fall from 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds. It also doesn’t look like the higher performance statistics do too much to influence efficiency. Says Tesla The Model Y performance is still capable of about 360 miles reach on the WLTP cycle, only a few miles less than the long distance (expects it will dive a lot if the EPA gets it). Just like other model YS, it can add about 150 miles of range within 15 minutes. Tesla also gave the performance electronic dampers and a new “stability assistant mode” with which drivers apparently enable “to adjust your traction and control” between standard, reduced and settings.

More changes

To go along with the changes under the skin, Tesla also added new 21-inch Araachnid 2.0 wheels that are reminiscent of those on the plaid of the Model S, together with more aggressive front and rear fascias. There is also a new carbon fiber spoiler that Tesla claims to actually produce Downforce and reduce resistance. Unlike that, there are not many changes on the outside between performance and a regular model Y, and I am sure that potential buyers will love that.

Changes on the inside of the Y-performance model are just as boring, but there are some checkered inspired pieces to remind you of cars that you would buy if you had more money, which is always fun. I suppose the biggest news on the inside is the addition of a slightly larger center (and only) screen, which grows from 15.4 inches to 16 inches and wins a higher resolution. Tesla claims that the cabin of the model Y Performance is also quieter thanks to extra sound damping and accounting glass compared to the standard car. The automaker also added adjustable thigh extensions to the seats to make them a little more comfortable for guys like me with Thicc Ol ‘thighs. Relax, I know you are excited.

Oh, and of course it can be with completely self -driving, not that you should get it.

Too little, too late

Tesla is now in a huge pickle, to say the least. Turnover has fallen all over the world – it was recently passed on by Volkswagen in Europe, and the Q2 sales numbers of the company were gloomy. Thanks to the antics of CEO Elon Musk, it doesn’t really look that it will change quickly. Tesla is even struggling in China, where a new model with long wheelbase Y will probably not move the needle.

I clearly don’t have a crystal ball, but if I did, I would say it is fairly safe to assume that a mildly raised version of a crossover of an electric family will not be the savior that this company desperately needs. That does not even explain that there is no word when something like the Model Y performance could be for sale in the United States. For now we will wait. Maybe I’m wrong, but I doubt it. I am never.
