Duel Fighting, the French MMA League, founded by Charles Contillod and Thomas Faure, has launched his “Monetary Timer” system, which transforms every second of a fight into a financial stimulus for competitors. The system debuted in Duel 4 in June 2025, held for a few thousand spectators, and will perform again at Duel 5 in Albertville, France on October 18.
Charles Navillod sat in an exclusive interview with Tim Wheaton from Lowkick MMA to discuss.

The monetary timer shows a live price pool on a gigantic screen in the arenadecrease with the second until a fight is closed. Fighters who secure a finish – Knock – Out, Technical Knock – Out or entry – earlier in counting earn a larger greenhouse bonus, usually ranging from € 200 to € 2,000. In the first public process, 4 out of 10 attacks ended before the planned time limit, which represents an increase of 40 percent in early finishes compared to earlier events. Organizers directly attribute this increase in combat intensity to the new timing mechanism.
Intillod explained that the concept came from the need for precise synchronization between officials and broadcasting teams. “In amateur MMA, one civil servant holds time for the fight and the other for TV, and they often differ with one or two seconds. That mismatch can change the strategies of fighters – five seconds is huge,” he in an exclusive interview.
“We have developed a synchronized digital timer and added a countdown in which the money disappears per second until the fight ends. Close quickly, earn more.”
He and Faure then worked with digital developers to make a uniform, real -time clock and to add the monetary element to every passing moment of action.
“Viewers do not always know the hunters, but the monetary countdown keeps them on the edge. They said the tension was through the roof. We push the high-quality production lighting, sound, Showmanship-Dus even non-MMA fans come for the spectacle.”
In addition to rewarding fast finishes, the monetary timer serves as a central production element. It integrates with referee controls for accurate time observation, TV production teams for live broadcast images and arena screens and streaming platforms for immersion from the public. Live feeds aggregated viewer interactions of YouTube, Twitch, Kick, Tiktok and LinkedIn, who can tackle chat in a single stream that announcers can tackle immediately.
“Vechtzone let viewers tip hunters in real -time via WhatsApp. In this way, some amateurs have earned an extra € 200 – € 300 per fight.”
The co-founder of Duel Fighting added that the monetary timer matches broader plans to expand the technical offer of the competition. At the beginning of October the organization is organizing its first women’s competition, followed in 2026 by a mixed card with professional and amateur matchups. The competition intends to maintain its regional focus in the Alps and the Swiss border before extending to South France and the Paris market.
“At the same time, we stream on eight platforms – YouTube, Twitch, Kick, Tiktok, LinkedIn – and aggregated chat in one feed so that commentators can handle fans directly.”
Legal protection for innovation is protected by registrations at the French National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), the Agency for Programs Programs (App) in Europe and the US Copyright Office. These measures position the monetary timer for global licensing discussions, including possible negotiations with large MMA promotors such as KSW, Octagon, Ares and the UFC. Under proposed agreements, established competitions can license the system whether partnerships income exchange participate to use technology in professional events.
“We are in negotiations to licens the timer for large competitions such as Octagon, KSW, perhaps UFC. They would rent the system or enter an official partnership.”
Duel Fighting works at the intersection of sport and technology. The backgrounds of the founders include competitive skiing and digital development, which they used to build the technological stack of the competition. The organization also pilots ‘Vechtzone’, A platform Enables fans to tip hunters via WhatsApp during live events, which generates extra wallets of € 200 – € 300 for top artists. This combination of financial interests and interactive functions has demonstrated the involvement of the public, interested in both MMA enthusiasts and spectators who are new to sport.
While Duel Fighting is preparing for his next event in October, the monetary timer continues to attract attention as a potential game changer in combat sports. Both organizers and hunters will keep a close eye on to see how this innovation influences fight dynamics and viewing experience in the coming seasons.
