Ex-Chelsea star Tomori held Tuchel talks ahead of the World Cup

Former Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori says he has spoken to England boss Thomas Tuchel about his World Cup prospects ahead of next summer’s tournament.

The 28-year-old has impressed for AC Milan since leaving Stamford Bridge in 2021. He won the Scudetto in his first full season and became one of the best centre-backs in Serie A.

However, Tomori has not played for England since November 2023, when he started against Malta in a European Championship qualifier. Since his international debut in 2019, he has earned just five caps.

Tuchel has given Tomori positive feedback, but the Milan star admits he faces stiff competition for a place in the squad.

“I spoke to him after the last international break in November. We have spoken a few times and the message is to keep doing what I am doing,” Tomori told the club. BBC.

“The World Cup is in six months and there is still a lot of football to be played.

“I know he is watching and keeping an eye on him, because he has called up (teammate) Ruben Loftus-Cheek. That gives me the confidence that I can make it.”

“He came to Milan last season and I know he gets our data and sees our clips regularly.

“The way he talks about it is that it’s difficult because there are so many players in that position, and I understand it because you have players like John Stones, Marc Guehi, Dan Burn and Ezri Konsa.

“But the World Cup is still a dream and I am working towards that.”
