Eric Tainino, a retired Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour player who has achieved All-America Honors at UCLA three times, has become a member of the Country Club of North Carolina as director of Racquets.
He will be responsible for all activities and programs for members of the club who play tennis and pickleball. Taino is already following Van Vliet, CCNC’s old racquets professional, who moves full-time in his role as director of Wellness.
“CCNC is lucky that Eric Toino has connected our leadership team as director of Racquets,” said CCNC General Manager and Chief Operating Officer Jim Sutton. “Our members will enjoy an improved Racquets program because of his earlier professional experience and career at a high level in playing and coaching tennis. We warmly welcome Eric and his family to CCNC.”
Taino, 50, played 10 years as a professional and earned career-high rankings of No. 122 in Singles and No. 52 in Doubles. During his time at UCLA he was the number 1 player and team captain for his high -ranked team. Taino also represented the Philippines in the Davis Cup competition.
“I am very enthusiastic and positive about the club’s prospects here,” said Taino, a resident of Jersey City, NJ “There is really good energy and a good feeling of a new beginning.”
His playing and coaching experience are important components of his skills, but he emphasizes the service aspect of the work and a good listener.
“I would like to build a good relationship and connection with the members,” Toino said. “Above all, I hope that I can have the biggest impact there … that they have the feeling that they have someone here to help them and to help them have the best experience in tennis or pickleball they can.”
Taino, whose three children (two sons and a daughter) are prospective golfers, moved with his family to Pinehurst in January 2024 for the quality of life and the many best golf possibilities of the area.
“It already feels like at home,” Toino said. “My family is super happy here.”
In a turn of happiness and happiness, Taino discovered the CCNC vacancy that opened by his neighbor, the father-in-law of CCNC Head Golf Professional Tanner Steiner.
He is eager to start working with the racquet enthusiasts of the club and looks at the quota of the program.
“As a player or as a coach, it has always been a natural fit for me to be on the field,” he said.
