Despite the final result, Spain started the game at the top. Spain only needed 25 minutes to break the impasse after a relatively even start of the final of Euro 2025. Arsenal midfielder Mariona Caldentey scored the wide open header in the six-year box of the cross from the Batlle cross, after English defender Lucy Brousze was not good. Even before the finish it was a wonderful example of classic Spanish teamwork that created the chance.

England was forced to make an early replacement when Lauren James was injured in the 40th minute. James was already mentioned as doubtful with an ankle injury. The change resulted in Chloe Kelly’s earliest performance in this tournament, after he made five second half on the bench. As a replacement, the Arsenal Forward helped the first goal in the quarterfinals Comeback against Sweden and scored the playing goal in extra time against Italy in the semi -final. She would again be incredibly impactful.
England found an equalizer in the 57th minute through the head of Alessia Russo. Kelly recorded her second assist of the tournament with a point cross from the left. As with the opener of Spain, the marking in the box did not put sufficient pressure on the goal scorer.
After the Equalizer of England, Spain created the majority of, the chances of higher quality, but could not find that decisive second goal, so that the game sent extra time to extra time.
Extra time got stuck at one goal, and sent Spain to their first penalty shootout from this tournament and England to their second. For the first time since the inaugural edition in 1984, the ladies would be determined by a penalty shootout.
Veteran Beth Mead first stepped up and initially converted in the middle despite the slipping, but had saved her shot well by Cata Coll during the forced second attempt. Patri Guijarro was the first for Spain and hardly squeaked her centered shot along a flying Hannah Hampton. Alex Greenwood converted with a low shot just far enough in the right corner. Caldentey, who previously missed a penalty in the tournament, had her middle height shot saved by Hampton. Niamh Charles, a late replacement for England, sent Coll the wrong direction and placed the ball in the left corner. Aitana Bonmatí, the semi -final of Spain, had also saved its fine in the middle of the height by Hampton. Captain Leah Williamson had saved her attempt by Coll with a strong sweeping. Salma Paralluelo sent her shot wide from the right post, making it 2-1 for England with one more round kicking to take. Kelly, who scored the winning goal in the Euro 2022 final, stepped up to take the decisive fifth round kick and sent it in the top left corner for the victory.
Despite long periods of domination, Spain could not all win it in their very first euro-definitive appearance. Gotham FC and Spain Vooruit Esther Gonzáles still took the Golden Boot from the tournament home as a top scorer with four goals in the euro of 2025. Two -time balloon d’Or Winner Bonmatí was named player of the tournament.
Michelle Agyemang received the young player from the Tournament Award, after he came from the bank in four games and scored two crucial goals for England at the age of 19. Hampton received the player of the match honors for her various in-game Saves and Penalty Shootout performance.
