Hannah Hampton says she threw the Spain goalkeeper Cata Coll’s bottle with her penalty turtle in the English crowd during the penalty shoot-out of the Euro 2025 final.
England retained their European crown in Switzerland after beating World Champions Spain 3-1, in which Hampton saved two spotkicks.
The Lionesses became the first nation to retain the ladies since Germany won six in a row from 1995 to 2013.
Like many keepers, both Hampton and Coll chose to have a sheet of paper that indicates the most likely target of their opponent during their respective punishments.
Hampton chose to stick the paper on her arm, but Coll put it on her water bottle, with the decision of the latter that could intervene the goalkeeper of England.
“The Spanish keeper was in her bottle,” Hampton told Talksport.
“So I thought when she went into the goal, I just picked it up and throw it in the English fans so that she can’t have it.

“I never put it on a bottle because someone can do that, so that’s why I put it on my arm.
“It was not difficult, if she is in the goal, is it in itself, right? You just pick it up?
“When she saw my bottle there instead, mine is empty, but it has the same sponsors and so on, so I just put mine in it, threw her in with the fans and she had an empty bottle.
“She walked back and I walked the other way and she was so confused, I tried so hard not to laugh.”
