England ends in a high to seal top -20 place at U13 European Championships – Table Tennis England

England finished the team event at the European Under-13 Championships in Sweden in the Top 20 when they ended their campaign with two victories.

In the bracket before 19th to 22nd positions, England overcame Luxembourg 3-2 for the first time. Sinan Surensoy & Amber Lemmon together to win the opening doubles, but Assil Sarri was defeated in three Deuce competitions by Nora Cattazzo.

Dimitar Dimitrov restored the advantage of England by beating Mattis Goedert in four, but they were returned back as a bit of the fifth Lemmon 11-7. It was left to Sursoy to seal the victory by hitting Noah Valente in three and pulling away after taking the first 14-12.

England then stood for the 19th position for Moldova and had to come down from 2-0 to win 3-2 after Dimitrov & Lemmon de Doubles lost in four and Sarri lost a close game in the fifth of Maria Coroliuc.

Sursoy started the comeback with a 3-2 victory over Mikita Martinov-11-5 in the fifth and Lemmon was leveled by beating Andreea Prohorovici in three.

Dimitrov lost his first match 14-16 against Nicolae Bucur, but fought back to win three tight games to seal a 3-1 (14-16, 13-11, 11-9, 12-10) Scoreline and complete the victory of England.

Dimitrov, sowing ninth, was also the best artist in England in the singles events and reached the last 16, although he had to fight back from 2-0 to beat Julian Dedken of Belgium in the group phase.

He then won his last 32 match before he went to the sixth seed Joel Isaksson from host country Sweden, who won 3-1 (12-14, 12-10, 11-5, 13-11).

Sursoy reached the knockout phase as second place and he went toe to toe with fourth seed Filip Nagy in his last group match, eventually 3-1 (7-11, 12-14, 10-12, 12-10). He was pulled against Mihai Iordan of Romania, the 10th seed, in the round of 64 and went out in four games.

Neither Sarri could not be eligible for the main table in the singles of the girls, although Sarri achieved a good victory over the higher ranked Kleio Madesi in Greece.

Both reached the second round of the comfort event, where they left the competition, Lemmon in a 3-2 (11-13, 11-2, 9-11, 14-12, 13-11) fight against Maria Coroliuc van Romania.

In the mixed Doubles, Dimitrov & Lemmon reached the round of 32, where they fell on the 10th seeds Simon Clin & Lisa Zhao of France. Sursoy & Sarri went out in the round of 64 to the 20th ranking disc from Slovakia.
