Day 2 of the fifth test between England and India in the oval witnessed 15 wickets who fell over three sessions. India, despite a collapse in the morning, bounced back through a sensational bowling effort and ended the day with a 52-run lead.
CV -Day 2 on 204/6, India was bundled for 224 and added only 20 points in less than 30 minutes. Gus Atkinson completed his five-wicket Trek and turned the tail. Karun Nair was the first to go in the morning, thanks to Josh Tongue. Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna followed quickly, with Atkinson claiming three of those four wickets.
In response, the openers of England, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett hurried to 92 in just 77 balls. Duckett saw Akash kicking around the slipping and even threw Siraj for six. He eventually fell 43 and tried a third shot, with deep breakthrough. Crawley ran to a 42-ball fifty, his third of the series, before he fell to Prasidh. Post-lunch, the bowlers of India. Including Mohammed Siraj, who produced a brilliant second spell and picked up three wickets for 35 in eight overs. He removed Ollie Pope, Joe Root and Jacob Bethell, all lbw.
Prasidh came to support when he quickly eliminated Jamie Smith and Jamie Overton. He later removed Gus Atkinson and Harry Brook, ending with figures of 4/62. England was all out for 247 and took a narrow 23-run lead.
The second innings of India started with Yashasvi Jaiswal who scored an unbeaten 51 of 49 balls and hit seven and two sixes. Kl Rahul and Sai Sudharsan fell cheap, but India still finished 75/2 at stumps. Umpires called stumps because of poor light after Ollie Pope refused the option to continue spin -bowling.
