Manchester United have three midfield targets in mind as they look to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s options in the middle of the park.
With Kobbie Mainoo expected to ask to leave, INEOS will look to sign one: Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson or Adam Wharton in January. But after the club’s summer splurge, the trio will likely stay put for now.
But a renewed impetus is expected next summer, with the Nottingham Forest ace likely to be the main target after his incredible audition against the Red Devils a few weeks ago.
Forest value their talisman at as much as £100 million, while the 20-time English league champions believe they can complete the deal for around £60 million.
Elliot Anderson is a target for Liverpool
However, it will be far from an easy pursuit given the sheer number of teams chasing his signature. Now Liverpool is also in the race.

But Team conversation have revealed that the Englishman would prefer a move to Old Trafford over a move to Anfield as he wants to play under Amorim.
“Liverpool are interested in bringing Elliot Anderson to Anfield, but sources have told TEAMtalk that the Nottingham Forest midfielder is keen to move to Manchester United and work under manager Ruben Amorim.
“Sources have told TEAMtalk that Elliot Anderson is Man Utd’s top midfield target in 2026.
England international prefers United
“While Nottingham Forest are said to be demanding £120m for Anderson, TEAMtalk understands that Man Utd are confident of completing a deal for the 23-year-old for half that figure – £60m.
“Man Utd insiders have told us that Anderson himself would be “very keen” on a move to Old Trafford.”
This is great new for Amorim, but he has more pressing needs at the moment. If Mainoo leaves, INEOS will have to call in someone as cover.
Joao Gomes or Ruben Neves have been identified as market opportunities. It will be interesting to see who ends up at the Theater of Dreams in the winter.
