SCHC’s Xan de Waard, Gantoise’s Alix Gerniers and Old Georgians’ James Mazarelo have all been nominated following their performances on the international stage in 2025.
De Waard and Gerniers are both shortlisted for Women’s Player of the Year, along with China’s Li Hong.
Mazarelo, meanwhile, has been shortlisted for the men’s goalkeeper of the year following his exploits with OGs during the EHL KO16 in Barcelona. For this prize he will compete against the German Jean-Paul Danneberg and the Argentinian Tomás Santiago.
The list of nominees was also released for the men’s player of the year and the women’s goalkeeper of the year, with Thierry Brinkman from Den Bosch, Anne Veenendaal from AH&BC Amsterdam and Tom Boon from Royal Léopold, one of the EHL’s all-time top scorers.
The shortlists were drawn up by an expert panel consisting of players, coaches and TV commentators selected by the FIH.
The expert panel was given access to match data from all international competitions held in 2025, including test matches, continental championships, FIH Hockey Pro League, FIH Hockey Nations Cups and the FIH Hockey Nations Cup 2, before drawing up the final list of nominees.
The voting process is now open! National associations – represented by the captains and coaches of their respective national teams – fans, players, coaches, officials and media can register their votes until November 16.
