According to reportsIt sounds like new unrestricted free agent NHL defenseman Egor Zamula is signing with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Elliotte Friedman is the first to report, and this comes just minutes after it was announced that Zamula had approved waivers on Tuesday.
Dan Milstein, Zamula’s new agent, tweeted a statement on Tuesday:
“On December 20, 2025, Egor Zamula approached our agency (Gold Star Hockey) with a clear and principled goal: to find an opportunity to return to the NHL as soon as possible and continue his career at the highest level. We are grateful to Egor for making a conscious and informed decision about his professional future.”
That led to discussions with the Flyers about a trade. He added: “…the club has given us official permission to enter into discussions with other NHL teams. From the beginning, Egor and I agreed that the situation could realistically develop along two paths: 1. A trade to another NHL club; or 2. Termination of the existing contract followed by the signing of a new NHL agreement.” The Flyers opted for the trade.
The Penguins thought he would want to stay, but it didn’t work out that way. Milstein noted: “All parties we spoke with were fully aware of the player’s position, including Pittsburgh, which traded for him. I would like to personally thank the management and front offices of both organizations for their professional, transparent and very constructive work over the past seven days.”
He ended with: “As a result, he has selected the club with which he will sign an NHL contract. An official announcement will follow in due course. This was a balanced, mature decision by a professional athlete who opted for long-term opportunity and the chance to remain in the NHL due to short-term financial considerations.”
It appears the club he has chosen is the Blue Jackets. The agency posted a photo and confirmed a one-year contract.
