Tragic Dexter Wilton was only eight months old when he died, where both his mother and his stepfather were guilty of manslaughter, not delivering the necessities of life and negligent acts that cause damage
An eight -month -old baby died in the most horrible circumstances, in which both the police and paramedics are completely stunned by the terrible home environment in which he was found.
Authorities discovered the little boy, named Dexter Wilton, after a distressed emergency call of Natalie Jade Whitehead, the mother of Dexter, who told them that her child was “completely gone”.
Upon their arrival about 12 minutes later, officers were shocked by the filthy state of the Whitehead apartment. According to media reports, animal outputs were everywhere, while the kitchen was spread with dirty dishes, food and animal food residues.

The room where Dexter slept contained two cots – one of which was used for storage – while dirty diapers and baby clothes were littered everywhere.
In his sleeping area there was an empty baby bottle and a sheet covered with small pieces of “thick, white fabrics”, which was thought it was vomit.
The police found Whitehead lying on a single mattress, grabbed Dexter against her chest and cried. Researchers would later establish that he had been “dead for some time” – it was in fact revealed that it was 21 hours ago that Whitehead and her then partner, Andrew William Campbell, had even taken the trouble to check in the baby.
Both Whitehead and Campbell later argued guilty of the manslaughter of Dexter after a police investigation, and also argued guilty of not delivering the needs of life and negligent actions that caused damage.
Whitehead was imprisoned for nine years in October last year. But she was eligible for conditional release in June 2025 after three years and nine months in guardianship for the sentence, according to news.com.au. Andrew William Campbell was imprisoned for eight and a half years for the manslaughter of Baby Dexter in 2019 and is eligible for conditional release in September 2026.

During the conviction of Campbell, Supreme Court Justice Catherine Muir spoke about the scene that the police were waiting in the RaceView area of ​​Australia, where Dexter died.
The court was told that the little boy was placed in bed the night before, with a single bottle of milk. The stove ran and the door to the room was closed.
Whitehead and Campbell then did not check the Dexter until 5 pm on June 21 – about 9 pm after Dexter was brought to bed. Instead, they spent the time consuming a drug cocktail and did not leave their house.
Not only was the entire house covered with animal onions, the food and the pantry were also “practically defined” of any food.
Justice Muir noted that officers found a plastic bathtub in the main bath, with water and cleaning mittens that had recently been used. “There was an extremely painful diaper in the bathroom vanity. It had red spots on the waist … and was heavily caked with faeces,” she said.

Later it was revealed that this was because emergency services were not immediately mentioned when Dexter did not respond in his bed. Instead, he was bathed and turned into a fresh diaper.
Justice Muir said that Campbell then took a waste of waste full of dirty baby clothes and diapers, who put it in the trash of a neighbor and encouraged them not to tell the police. Tragic enough, only five days before he died, Dexter was in a good mood, “clear” and “well -fed” after he stayed with an aunt in the rural city of Tara.
When Whitehead dropped him, he had “serious diaper rash”, which was “raw and bleeding”. But the result went down while Dexter was under the care of his family before being returned to Whitehead and Campbell.

During the conviction of Campbell, a post-mortem established that the eight-month-old “serious neglect of his most basic needs had experienced food and liquid”, which led to acute malnutrition and dehydration.
There was no evidence of considerable physical damage, but Dexter had sunken eyes and an “extensive” diaper rash that covered his groin to his inner thighs.
“A number of illegal drugs were detected from hair sample analysis, including MDMA, methylamfetamine, cocaine and cannabis, but the exact dose of administration or exposure could not be determined,” said Justice Muir.
“It is accepted that the death of Dexter was the result of a omission and that there was no intention. But the difficulty is that you have made a positive decision to consume drugs that could not help you with his care.”
She further said to Campbell: “You caused Dexter’s death by not providing the needs of human life. You had the duty to provide those supplies.
