Due to a national disruption in the passport system, travelers are stuck at airports

Travelers going through Australian airports were temporarily delayed on Sunday due to a nationwide glitch in the passport system.
The Australian Border Force said a “technical system failure” was impacting passengers across the country. The problem has now been resolved.
“The Australian Border Force has been working to restore a technical system fault, which has impacted passengers across the country this morning,” a spokesperson told SBS News.
“The problem has been resolved at all airports and all systems are back online.”

The spokesperson said the cause of the technical problem was still being investigated.

Melbourne Airport told SBS News it is “currently prioritizing flights to manage passenger flows as we work to reduce congestion.”
It is understood the outage left the ABF manually processing passengers for around an hour.
Sydney Airport said it had deployed additional staff to the terminals to assist and move passengers forward in order of flight priority.
A Perth Airport spokesperson told SBS that no flights were delayed due to the “ABF processing issue”.
Some passengers expressed their frustration on social media. One person on X said he had been stuck at Brisbane airport for more than half an hour.
Jetstar warned travelers to see “further disruptions today and likely minor disruptions tomorrow”.
