Duda and Hugo reach the final in Brazil

The WTT meeting series is in Brazil this week. Brazil-Native Hugo Calderano is the best seed, but Germany and Japan were both strong with each country and sent 3 to the quarterfinals. Japan was 0-3 in their matches, where Yukiya Uda fell to Hugo Calderano 3-0, Yuta Tanaka who fell to Korea’s Oh Junsung 3-2 and Kazuki Hamada lost 3-0 to Benedikt Duda. German was lucky that it had 3 of the 4 quarter -finalists in the bottom half of the draw. Benedikt Duda went over Hamada to reach the semi-final, and he faced Dimitrij Ovtcharov that was Dang Qiu at the top of their all-German quarterfinals at the top. Benedikt Duda then confirmed his position as a German top player, because the world no. 12 easily dominated OVTcharov (World No. 33) 3-0.

For top seeds, Calderano dropped a single match in his two opening matches (3-1 and 3-1) before he found his top equipment. Since then he has defeated Yukiya UDA 3-0 in their quarter-final match and then absolutely wiped Oh Jungsung (5, 4, 5) into their semi-final. Hugo Calderano and Benedikt Duda will be confronted tonight, in the last game of the tournament.

The contingent of Japan is the whole story on the women’s side. Five Japanese women reached the last 8 and their only loss was in a Japanese matchup in Japan. Miwa Harimoto was Joo Cheonhui 3-1 and then beat Honoka Hashimoto 3-2 in their semi-final. Harimoto will be confronted with Miyu Nagasaki in the final. Nagasaki (world no. 20) Disrupted Satsuki Odo (World No. 9) in their semi -final.

The title of the men double went to Benedikt Duda and Dang Qui. The title of the ladies Doubles went to Miwa Harimoto and Satsuki Odo. The title of the mixed Doubles went to a few less well -known Japanese players, Satoshi Aida and Honoka Hashimoto
