Basketball schedules from the university are approaching the completion of the 2025-26 season, and there will be no shortage of selection framework for non-conference matchups in the first few months. Although the Players ERA Festival will bring countless controversial confrontations to Las Vegas in November, we are also in store for a few blockbuster, on campus.
To name a few of the highlights on campus, we get Michigan State vs. Duke, Alabama vs. Purdue, Illinois vs. Texas Tech, Kentucky vs. Indiana and Uconn vs. Arizona. Then there is the ACC-SEC challenge of 2025, which still brings 16 games, including Duke vs. Florida and Kentucky vs. North Carolina.
These are the games and results that help set the tone for the season. Full conferences suffer or thrive on selection on Sunday because of the statistics built in November and December versions.
The blockbuster of the SEC that runs through non-conference action last season was the stage for the competition to earn a record-breaking 14 NCAA tournament offers. While the collective attention of the sports world was primarily focused on football and what turned out to be a substandard season on the gridiron, the sec quietly took basketball in the university.
With the basketball season that is getting closer, we have identified the non -conference games for which we are most enthusiastic (in chronological order).
Kentucky @ Louisville (November 11)
Their November 11 meeting at the KFC Yum! The center in Louisville comes much earlier than normal, but the timing is demonstrably positive. The Rivalry Showdown is planned for a Tuesday evening, making it an attractive national viewing option for sports fans who have no important football alternatives. It will also be the first real test for both teams, which means that we have to learn a ton about their new schedules in a pressure -defending environment.
De Kentucky vs. Louisville match last season happened before the cardinals found their Mojo under Pat Kelsey, because a loss of 93-85 at no. 5 the UK dropped the cards at 6-5. But Louisville spent the rest of the season of the 2024-25 season. Now, in the 2025-26 season, both Kentucky and Louisville flourish among second-year coaches and they are expected to compete for conference and national titles. The rapid success that Kelsey and Mark Pope have brought to a basketball engraved state is to reflect one of the best rivalry in the sport. This year’s meeting will essentially be a celebration of college basketball in the Commonwealth, while these programs are tilting while they try to set the tone for seasons with a considerable advantage. – David Cobb
Last November Houston-Auburn played in the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, an early season measuring stick for two teams was ranked in the top 15 of the AP poll. Auburn won that game 74-69 Despite a litany of problems On their first trip to face the cougars. Both teams also came as top-five teams in the season, with Auburn’s Run in the last four to the final champion Florida and the Run van Houston ending in the hands of the Gators in the title match.
It is not surprising to think that the competition in Houston-Auburn this season in November could again serve as a new lacquer must for two warring forces.
This year’s game will be played on November 16 in the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama, and will contain a Houston team that could open if in the preseason No. 1 accepts an Auburn team that is being re -made, but is still rough and ready to play spoiler on stammering sites near the house.
I am very excited to see how these teams are doing against each other. This will of course be a huge test for a cougars team with title ambitions, but also a worthy challenge for Auburn to see how ready it is to hit large dogs. It will also compare lectures against each other – Tahaad Pettiford (Auburn) vs. Milos Uzan (Houston), specific – to say nothing about the chess match between coaches Kelvin Sampson and Bruce Pearl. This matchup has all the goods you want. – Kyle Boone
Duke vs. Kansas (November 18)
Kansas first -year student Darryn Peterson is the number 1 in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports. Duke first-year student Cameron Boozer is no. 3. Both are clearly elite and probably one-and-done top-five picks in the 2026 NBA -ConceptWhere they are selected by franchises in June and then probably spend the next decade-plus competing against each other as professionals.
We get a preview for nine days before Thanksgiving.
That is when the Jayhawks and Blue Devils meet in the 15th annual Champions Classic in Madison Square Garden in New York. It is a circle-the-date event similar to the Jimmy V Classic from 2007, when Memphis and USC were linked as MSG in a game with Derrick Rose (Memphis) and OJ Mayo (USC), two announced guards who then went first and third, in the NBA design respectively.
Neither Rose nor Mayo were great that night.
They combined to shoot 9 of 29 out of the field, including 1 of 5 of 3. So hopefully Peterson and Boozer will deliver a little better if they meet each other on November 18. Anyway, I can’t wait to see it. – Gary Parrish

Florida @ Duke (December 2)
Last year’s sec/acc Men’s challenge was an eventful, but it was crooked. The scales threw heavily in favor of the SEC, because the conference went 14-2 against the ACC. Duke was able to save the day for the conference after recording a statement victory at home on Auburn. This year’s challenge should also be a good, and the headliner -matchup will rule from the directing national champion Florida to Cameron Indoor Stadium to start Duke.
There are many reasons why this will be the best non -conference game of the season. Among them is the fact that there will be numerous NBA designs for views to think about. One of them is Duke first-year student Cameron Boozer, who is a projected top three pick in the NBA Draft 2026. The Gators also have a handful of players who could hear their name, at the beginning of the next summer, including Thomas Haugh, Alex Condon and Boogie Fland.
If Duke had not blown a late lead against Houston last spring, this would have been the matchup of the national title game. The fact that we get this game less than eight months later is a small consolation prize for college basketball diehards who wanted to see this game play in San Antonio. – Cameron Salerno
Kentucky vs. St. John’s (December 20)
Wrote about this When it became official in May. UCLA challenged the CBS Sports Classic (because Mick Cronin did not want to fly from LA to Atlanta; he told me so much earlier this season), and thus gave Basketball one of the best non -con matches of the season. St. John’s was available and willing to dive into. What do we get? Possibly a top 10 matchup, but we also get Kentucky coach Mark Pope Matching Wits against his mentor, former Kentucky coach Rick Pitino. And it happens on the 30-year anniversary of the time the two helped to guide an all-time-great Kentucky team to a national title in the 1995-96 season.
“I’ve been trying to get this game for more than a year,” Pope told me in May. “This is a perfect scenario.”
“It was clear that Kentucky Camelot was for me, I often said it,” Pitino told CBS Sports. “So now, to play against the captain (pope), who has made so many special moments for me and the team, is very special in a fight that turns on CBS.”
And it happens in a city that fans of Kentucky know well: Atlanta. Or, as it is popularly known: Catlanta. This tent game comes on a point on the calendar when we have a good meter for the possibilities of St. John and Kentucky. It is possible that both can be arranged as high as in the top five. But, apart from where the teams are, the storylines attached and the reunion element makes me more enthusiastic for this game than all others in the first eight weeks of the season. – Matt Norlander
