Drew Brees, the founder of Vuori, joins forces to buy Padres

Drew Brees and one of his powerful friends are reportedly making a serious attempt to buy the Padres.

Former NFL quarterback and Vuori founder Joe Kudla has partnered and submitted an offer to purchase San Diego’s MLB franchise. Athletics reports this on Thursday.

The duo is one of five groups looking to take over the organization, the outlet reported, with Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob and billionaire businessman José E. Feliciano also in the hunt for the winning bid.

The Padres went up for sale in late 2025, about two years after the death of former team president Peter Seidler, who was part of a group that bought the baseball organization. in 2012 for just under $1 billion.

It is widely expected that the club will eventually sell for between $2 and $3 billion.

Steve Cohen currently owns the record for an MLB team sale, setting the milestone in 2020 when he purchased the Mets for $2.42 billion.

Brees and Kudla have significant ties to the San Diego area. The former signal caller began his professional football career with the Chargers in 2001.

Kudla, meanwhile, is a University of San Diego alum whose company Vuori is based in Carslbad, California.

The two have been friends for a while – with Kudla actually calling Brees his “coolest workout buddy” ever 2025 interview with Men’s Health.

“Drew Brees has become a friend of mine,” Kudla said. “The man is full of optimism and motivation. I had the opportunity to go to a Saints game in New Orleans with him, and the way the fans love him was just unreal.”

It’s unclear when the Padres’ sale will officially go through, though The Athletic reported the deadline for the first round of bidding was this week.
