4/5 betting favorite Dale Yeah used his quick early speed and sprinted into an early lead. The opening quarter was reached in 26.2. A field with the best old pacers in the field allowed Dale Yeah (Tony Morgan) to relax in the lead and slow down the pace of the race. Half was clocked in 55.1 (28.4)
Renaissance Deo, who won consecutive races, wanted to prove he was worthy of the step up. He advanced first at the five-eighth mark and walked up the backstretch.
Primo Maschio chased the bag. Downers Delight waited patiently along the pylons in third.
Dale Yeah accelerated to three-quarters in 1:22.1 (27)
The parked Renaissance Deo’s bid withered. It gave Downers Delight the chance to find approval and thundered home to win by a length and a quarter. He completed the mile in 1:50 and paid $7.20 for the win. The victory was sweet for Downers Delight and driver Pat Berry. Last week Downers Delight lost all hope of victory due to race interference that cost him the chance of victory. Dale Yeah and Primo Maschio finished in a dead spot.
