When will transactions start happening?

Jim Biringer of NHLRumors.com and Full Press NHL joined the Rod Pedersen Show on Monday and was asked if some trades could happen before the holiday break. Despite the buzz around the league, there’s a good chance these deals happen after the break.

NHLRumors.com Transcripts

Rod Pedersen: “And I brought you here because you’ve gone out of your way to beat NHL rumors. I feel like it’s your favorite thing to do, and these days we don’t wait until the NHL Trade Deadline anymore because the deals are done, like we’re actually starting with the big ones now. That’s the trend where it’s going. So are you expecting anything in December?”

NHL Rumors: Can Teams Improve Other Areas Instead of Goaltending?

Jim Biringer: “I don’t think so. I mean, unless something happens really quickly, I don’t expect anything before the holiday break. Again, I think the way the standings are right now, everything is so tight. We’re just coming off the American Thanksgiving, the American Thanksgiving and the teams are just a few points apart in the Eastern Conference.”

I mean, who would have expected the (Philadelphia) Flyers to be where they are? Buffalo is still in it. All these teams are still in it. In the West yes. Calgary, Vancouver, St. Louis, Nashville, all those teams are at the bottom. But the Flames are playing better. St Louis has collected points. Vancouver, again, what are we doing in Vancouver? Because we send a memo, but who is really available?

I expect things to happen after the holiday break, after Christmas and heading into the Olympic break. And I do expect the deadline to be quite busy, but again, until I actually see it happen, there’s a lot of talk, but right now there’s no action.

NHL Rumors.com Note: During the beginning of the season we heard that several teams wanted to make progress. The problem is that the rankings are so tight. While teams talkprices are still high. While everyone would like to see deals doneno one is willing to take the risk right now. Not to mention who gives up a first-round pick in the upcoming draft.

NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks will make the market come to them

As mentioned in a similar question on TSN Radio in Montreal on Saturday, the trades we all expect to happen now or at the deadline could wait until the summer. However, there is a good chance that more will be known about specific teams after the holiday break heading into the new year.
