Dodgers’ Yoshinobu Yamamoto was crowned MVP of the World Series

In an epic Game 7 thriller that went to overtime, the Los Angeles Dodgers managed to overcome the odds in a comeback victory that will long be a playoff classic.

The game featured defensive gems and late-inning heroics that led to an 11e-inning finale in which the Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 5–4 to win consecutive championships for the first time since the New York Yankees won three in a row from 1998 to 2000.

But of all the key contributors, none top Los Angeles standout Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who was named the winner of the 2025 World Series MVP Award following the Dodgers’ Game 7 win.

Yamamoto started Games 2 and 6 of this year’s World Series. In Game 2, Yamamoto pitched a rare complete postseason game, giving up just one run and taking the win. It was his second consecutive complete game, the first against the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 2 of the NLCS, making him the first pitcher to achieve consecutive postseason complete games since Curt Schilling in 2001.

In Game 6, Yamamoto turned in another gem, going six innings, giving up one run and picking up his second win of the Fall Classic. The next day in Game 7, Yamamoto entered a tie game in the bottom of the ninth with runners on first and second base and only one out. He would hit Alejandro Kirk with an 0-1 sinker to load the bases before escaping with the score intact. After 2.2 scoreless innings, Yamamoto secured the win and the series for the Dodgers.
