Dodgers’ Yoshinobu Yamamoto admits honestly about the complete World Series game

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto threw his second consecutive complete game this postseason in Game 2 of the World Series.

The All-Star threw nine one-run innings and struckout eight batters, getting through the game with only 105 pitches thrown. However, the starter’s game did not get off to the best start and Yamamoto seemed to be heading for an early exit. He threw 23 pitches in the first inning and reached 46 pitches by the end of the third inning.

“Honestly, I didn’t think I would be able to finish the game because my pitch count was adding up quite quickly. But I’m very happy that I finished the game,” Yamamoto said. “…I am very happy and proud of the fact that I was able to make a big contribution and give the team a chance to win.”

Manager Dave Roberts felt the same way about Yamamoto’s pitch count during the early innings, and believed he would come out around the sixth inning.

“After that first inning I thought about six,” said Roberts. “I had a feeling he was going to find a way to get through the six. They’re an aggressive swinging team. I thought the stuff was good, so I had a feeling he was going to be able to get through the six. Then the pitch count stayed where it needed to stay. And for me, I just didn’t see anything going wrong as far as his delivery and the execution.”

Yamamoto retired the last 20 batters he faced in the game, leading the Dodgers to an all-important Game 2 victory to tie the series before returning to Los Angeles.

The Dodgers will play their next three games at Dodger Stadium and will look to take their first lead in the series after a Tyler Glasnow start in Game 3, which takes place on Monday, October 26 at 5:00 PM PT.
