Dodgers remain interested in the Cardinals versatile left-handed hitter

The Los Angeles Dodgers could add St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Lars Nootbar to their roster this season, per The Athletics Ken Rosenthal.

The Dodgers need an outfielder before Opening Day, and the Cardinals have already shown their willingness to cut some players this season after sending All-Star starting pitcher Sonny Gray to the Boston Red Sox.

“As previously reported by The Athleticsthe Seattle Mariners are a favorite for Donovan and the Los Angeles Dodgers are among the teams interested in Nootbaar,” Rosenthal wrote.

The Athletics Fabian Ardaya and Katie Woo previously reported that the Dodgers could solve their outfield woes through trades, mentioning Nootbar as a potential suitor.

“That list could also include Lars Nootbaar, who has a career OPS+ of 109, has played all three outfield spots and bats left-handed,” Ardiya and Wood. “The 28-year-old is coming off double heel surgery late last season. His Opening Day timeline is in jeopardy, but even if Nootbaar isn’t ready at the start of the season, he shouldn’t miss more than a few weeks.”

The five-year MLB veteran has played in the outfield throughout his career and would be a valuable piece for the Dodgers next season if he comes to LA. He had a down year in 2025 after posting four consecutive seasons with an OPS north of .700, and still managed double-digit home runs and a career-high 48 RBIs.

Nootbaar also spent time with Shohei Ohtani, Roki Sasaki and Yoshinobu Yamamoto on Team Japan in 2023.

The 28-year-old is a solid budget option for the Dodgers as they look to fill the hole in their outfield, and could be available to the Dodgers at a reasonable price due to his lack of offensive production in 2025. His missing glove could pose a problem for the Dodgers, but if they get desperate, they could very well pursue Nootbaar.
