Dodgers offer update on Shohei Ohtani after injury -fright

The Los Angeles Dodgers seem to have a crisis averted with Shohei Ohtani.

Ohtani caused a real fear during the start of Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds in Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. The reigning NL MVP was pulled out of the game as a pitcher in the fourth inning after firing six consecutive balls (including two wild litter). You can see the video of the relevant series of Ohtani here.

But about an hour after the Ohtani exit, the Dodgers shared a positive update. They revealed that Ohtani had just left the game as a pitcher because of ‘cramps’, per fabian ardaya of athletics.

Ohtani remained as a batter, especially in the game after leaving as a pitcher. That seems further evidence that he was only dealing with a small issue.

Ohtani, who did not throw the Dodgers at all last season, only made his seventh total start of the year on Wednesday. He initially threw only one inning per start, but was gradually fueled and achieved the fourth inning on Wednesday (sitting on 51 throws when he was drawn).

The obvious goal for the Dodgers is to have Ohtani completely healthy as a pitcher on time for the late season of 2025 MLB. As such, it is probably the absolute best scenario for them that Ohtani was only dealing with cramps against the Reds (although the Dodgers do have Countless other injuries to pitchers that they still have to deal with today).
