Dodgers linked to Twins All-Star on the trade market

The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking for an outfielder this season and could find their answer in longtime trade target Byron Buxton.

ESPN CEO Tim Keown proposes that the Dodgers acquire Buxton while the Minnesota Twins attempt to rebuild.

“This falls into the category of ‘Why? Because we can, that’s why,'” Keown wrote. “Enough is never enough for the Dodgers, so the task to make sure they have too much this season is to acquire the best available player at the position they may think they need to upgrade. Andy Pages to the left, put Buxton in the top half of the lineup and go for three in a row.

The Dodgers have plenty of pieces they can give to the tanking Twins, with their farm system as strong as ever. Another intriguing possibility, however, is that the Dodgers send right fielder Teoscar Hernandez back to the American League in a deal for Buxton.

Ken Rosenthal and Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reported that the Dodgers could trade Hernandez this winter in exchange for a better defensive option in center field, while moving Andy Pages to right, and a player like Buxton fits the bill.

The 31-year-old midfielder has posted a positive field run rating in each of his eleven seasons in the MLB and is more than adept with the bat.

Buxton posted a .264/.327/.551 slash line in 2025 and broke his previous career high in home runs with 35. He earned a Silver Slugger for his performance and made the second All-Star Game of his career, all while recording the highest MVP voting of his career.

But perhaps most importantly, Buxton stayed healthy for most of the season. The outfielder has only played more than 100 games three times in his career, and 2025 was a solid step in the right direction to stay healthy and available for the future.

Buxton’s bat would be a huge upgrade for the Dodgers, and his elite baserunning and bat would be a huge boost for LA as they look for their third straight World Series title.
